Ebony's new classes!

We are SUPER EXCITED to introduce to you a brand new teacher on Datura Online: Ebony!

Ebony is bringing her signature style to you in two workshops: The Game, An Original Choreography with elements of hip hop, 1930s jazz dance, waacking, and more AND an Urban Fusion: Throwback Style workshop!

 The Game: An Original ChoreographyThe Game: An Original Choreography

This original fusion choreography from Ebony combines elements of Raqs Sharki, urban dance genres such as popping, waacking, and house dance, and a 1930s Jazz dance influence. This workshop features a chronological breakdown of a fun and fast paced intermediate level dance to the electronic song "The Game" by Smokey Joe & The Kid. For a more in depth breakdown of some of the moves presented in this class, refer to Ebony's "Urban Fusion" series. Please be sure to warm up and cool down before and after working with this class..

 

Ebony's Urban Fusion Throwback Style

Urban Fusion : Throwback Style

In this workshop you'll discover Ebony's fun and unique take on Tribal Fusion belly dance, influenced by urban styles found in hip hop, retro funk popping, and movements rooted in Raqs Sharki dance. You'll work on isolating movements, unusual undulations, and some complex and exciting footwork. Please be sure to warm up before taking this class and cool down afterwards.

In this workshop Sedona will teach an emotive American Cabaret Veil choreography to Joseph Pusey's "Oud Chiftitelli". This choreography features various spins, turns, and intermediate veil techniques. It also includes a dramatic shimmy section as well as various veil frames and wraps. This choreography can stand on it's own or can be put into a larger belly dance set. Be sure you are warmed up and comfortable with veil fundamentals before taking this class.

This advanced choreography from Rachel has everything: Gooey slow, unbelievably fast, syncopation, triplets, and tons of variation, all to the amazing song "Changes" by SENOJNYAR. This workshop is part technique drill and part dance and includes Rib cage locks, side to side undulations, a lot of shoulder work, big juicy hip drops, and lots of back to back contrast. This workshop begins at the end, adding some structured improv and compositional principles along the way, and works backward to a gooey start so you can know you'll end strong! Be sure you are warmed up before starting this workshop and cool down afterwards..

In this workshop Ashley will teach a sweeping, spinning, expressive choreography set to the beautiful song "Viaje" by Ivan Tucakov and Tambura Rasa. This choreography includes double veil work, a short floorwork section with modification options, and many different types of spins. Offering challenges for all levels, you may choose to perform this piece with either a double or single veil, or modify the choreography to be for duets or larger groups. This is a classic, romantic choreography that reimagines dance in the 1920's era in Cairo. It features classic belly dance movement with some modern fusion stylization all to a beautiful song, Al-Sama'i al Thaqil by George Sawa. Enjoy!

Choreography with April Rose "Casino Badia": An Original Choreography

This workshop is a chronological breakdown of a classic choreography that reimagines dance in the Casino Badia era or 1920s Cairo. This historically inspired dance features skeletal shimmy technique, figure eights, weighted internal hip circles, balletic turns, elevated posture, and traveling undulations, all set to a Sama'i rhythm performed by George Sawa. We will move quickly through this dance so please be sure to warm up before beginning this choreography. For more difficult moves like the knee shimmy and the choo choo shimmy, please refer to April Rose's technique classes that break these down in detail.

Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures and uniquely Indian movement principles. Drawing from Colleena's dense training background in Classical and folk dances of India, she brings challenging spins, arm patterns, and distinct gaze to the choreography. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion belly dance choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns.

Indian Fusion Choreography "Heer Rajnha", pt. 2 with Colleena Shakti

Presenting part 2 of Colleena Shakti's new choreography, "Heer Ranjha".

In part 2 you'll work with challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography.

New Original Choreography Workshop: 1/29/15

Marigold Garden: Original Choreography by April Rose

We can't think of a better way to end such a mega-month of new releases than with part 2 of April Rose's original Indian Fusion choreography, "Marigold Garden"! It features an original song entitled "From India" by ElitrickKids.

The second half of this choreo continues with a playful and challenging fusion of Indian dance elements including mudras, rajasthani hip work, and tribungi postures with classic belly dance vocabulary.

This choreography was made to pair with her "Infusion: Indian Fusion Technique" workshops.

April Rose will chronologically break down the movements for each section of the dance, drill them to music, and then run through the choreography as it builds. We will move quickly through the dance and a warm up is recommended prior to beginning.

Marigold Garden: Original Choreography by April Rose

We're proud to present part one of April Rose Dancer's original Indian Fusion choreography "Marigold Garden"!

This choreography is a challenging and playful homage to springtime love with movements that draw from Indian dance, western dance, and belly dance. It features an original song entitled "From India" by ElitrickKids.

Indian Fusion Choreography with Colleena Shakti

Presenting "Lado", a beautiful original fusion choreography by Colleena Shakti to the Stellamara song "Lado".

This new workshop is bursting with Classical North Indian Spins, expressive movements from contemporary dance, and graceful nuances from Central Asian, Persian, and Classical Indian dance.

This workshop presents a fun challenge for those newer to Indian styles of dance and Colleena has many technique classes to help you with the fundamentals of these movements. You can find all of her technique classes here.

 

 Online Indian Fusion Choreography with Colleena ShaktiOriginal Indian Fusion Choreography: "Lado"

In this workshop students will learn a fusion choreography that draws movement inspiration from Classical Indian, Persian, Central Asian, and Contemporary dance. This choreography includes expansive movements and traveling spins, as well as balancing postures and subtle nuances, making it an engaging composition for the experienced dancer and the new student alike. Suggested attire is a skirt and dancing barefoot is ideal for the North Indian style spins in this choreography. (Be sure the floor surface you are dancing on is appropriate for fast spins, so as not to risk injury.)
