This is a fun, challenging, intermediate-level belly dance choreography to "Bounce" by Solace. In this fusion piece we'll play with some locking isolation combinations, layers, funky belly-dance based traveling steps and turns as well as a few Polynesian-inspired moves. This choreography is presented as a solo piece but with a few simple modifications, it can be done as a duet.
In this workshop we will focus on belly dance’s most classic prop, the veil. You will get clear and concise breakdowns of veil posture, technique, and 20 unique movements and variations. All of the movements can stand on their or own or seam together to create a lovely 20 part veil choreography. This American Cabaret Style workshop includes a warm-up specifically targeting arms, hands, wrists, upper back, shoulders and ribcage as well as commentary on using your veil as a theatrical prop and recovering from veil snafus.
This is a slow, lyrical belly dance choreography that includes some muscular, sinuous shape shifting, floorwork, traveling, different kinds of turns and a little yoga fusion. The dancer is encouraged to dance musically—listening to the various instruments within the piece. Various modifications are offered for certain phrases, so that dancers of different levels of flexibility can perform the Fusion choreography safely and beautifully. Be prepared with a pair of knee pads and some footwear for the floorwork and turns.
This challenging Fusion Belly Dance choreography is built for a soloist or any size group, would make a great opener or closer for a longer set, or could stand on its own as a single piece in a larger show. It demands a lot of strength and flexibility, and includes laybacks, drops, zippers, torso rotations, level changes, some layering and a lot of hipwork. This is a contemporary take on a style of music that is usually reserved for a traditional Turkish man's dance.
This unique, fun and challenging choreography is rooted in the gorgeous feminine expression of American Cabaret style belly dance with fusions of Classical Indian, African, and Western Modern dance esthetics. It combines up tempo shimmy variations and layers, beautiful flowing movements, lovely lines, and solid isolations. This original choreography moves between soft and sensual, fast and furious, poised and perfect to strong and sharp. Learning this dynamic choreography will provide a wonderful way to work on innovative techniques, transitions, and musicality.
In part one of April Rose's "Marigold Garden", we will begin to learn the first half of an original choreography to the song "From India". This half of the choreography features movements from Indian dance such as mudras, tribhangi posture and steps, and kathak hands combined with belly dance technique and traveling steps. April Rose will chronologically break down the movements for each section of the dance, drill them to music, and then run through the choreography as it builds. We will move quickly through the dance and a warm up is recommended prior to beginning. Stay tuned for part 2, which completes the full choreography.
In this fun and fast paced choreography, Sadie will share with you a professional level drum solo featuring challenging combinations, dramatic poses, intricate layers and dynamic hipwork, complex isolations, spins and turns and some of signature Sadie style moves. This choreography also features Egyptian technique and a little Samba to spice things up a bit, inspired by Sadie's extensive training in the beautiful Brazilian dance. This is an advanced level choreography and you are invited to try this at your own pace and have lots of fun with it. Please be sure to warm up before trying this class and cool down afterwards.
In part one of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha", you will begin to learn the first half of a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace. Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this part of the choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures, belly dance movements including undulations and mayas, as well as intricate arm patterns. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion Belly Dance choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class. The name of the class comes from a translation of the lyrics, which are part of the epic love tragedy Heer Ranjha written by Waris Shah in 1766.
This workshop is a chronological breakdown of a classic choreography that reimagines dance in the Casino Badia era or 1920s Cairo. This historically inspired dance features skeletal shimmy technique, figure eights, weighted internal hip circles, balletic turns, elevated posture, and traveling undulations, all set to a Sama'i rhythm performed by George Sawa. We will move quickly through this dance so please be sure to warm up before beginning this choreography. For more difficult moves like the knee shimmy and the choo choo shimmy, please refer to April Rose's technique classes that break these down in detail. For a visual reference of the "Casino Badia" era that inspired April Rose's choreography, check out this playlist we've put together on Youtube!
