This workshop from April Rose is a chronological breakdown of an intermediate/advanced level choreography that features belly dance roots and contemporary embellishments. Set to the Arabic Jazz song, "Cynthia's Tears" the movement in this dance interprets the melody and inspired by the idea of growth. Techniques include rounded hipwork, spiraling arm pathways, leg extensions, choo choo shimmies, chaîné turns, and a complex layering sequence.

In this workshop Ashley will teach a sweeping, spinning, expressive choreography set to the beautiful song "Viaje" by Ivan Tucakov and Tambura Rasa. This choreography includes double veil work, a short floorwork section with modification options, and many different types of spins. Offering challenges for all levels, you may choose to perform this piece with either a double or single veil, or modify the choreography to be for duets or larger groups. This workshop is a chronological breakdown of a classic choreography that reimagines dance in the Casino Badia era or 1920s Cairo. This historically inspired dance features skeletal shimmy technique, figure eights, weighted internal hip circles, balletic turns, elevated posture, and traveling undulations, all set to a Sama'i rhythm performed by George Sawa. We will move quickly through this dance so please be sure to warm up before beginning this choreography. In this segment we will explore the Baladi rhythm. Sedona will breakdown the Baladi rhythm, explaining the musical counts, and detail and drill two combinations to this rhythm: a large and external combination, as well as an internally focused one. This segment is from Sedona's "Drum Solo Expresssions #1 : Baladi" class.
In part two of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha Choreography", you will continue to learn a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace, building on what you have learned in part one. In the second half of this choreography, Colleena will draw from her extensive training background in Classical and folk dances of India to bring you challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class.
In part one of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha", you will begin to learn the first half of a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace. Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this part of the choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures, belly dance movements including undulations and mayas, as well as intricate arm patterns. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion Belly Dance choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class. The name of the class comes from a translation of the lyrics, which are part of the epic love tragedy Heer Ranjha written by Waris Shah in 1766.
In the first workshop in Sedona's "Drum Solo Expressions" series we will begin to cultivate our musicality, understanding Sedona's particular Drum Solo techniques and identifying Arabic rhythms. Sedona will explain her basic drum solo theory, the main goal in dancing a drum solo, and her process in preparing a drum solo. She will explore several fundamental sounds that comprise a well executed drum solo, drilling movements and combinations to familiarize us with the sounds of the drum, with a focus on the upbeat and popular Baladi rhythm. This Indian fusion belly dance combination is set on a Hindusthani (North Indian) 6 count rhythm called Dadra. It features layers of detail inspired by Classical Indian dance such as mudras, gaze and arm patterns. Concepts from Indian dance bring added layers to already beautiful fusion belly dance isolations and combinations. Find the unique quality of this 6 count rhythm and enjoy the subtle personality shift when familiar movements find a new expression to new music.
In this workshop, fundamental principles and technique of shakti style Indian fusion will be explored through complex layered movement phrases that will be broken down and drilled, so that dancers at any level can reap the benefits of carefully refining and strengthening these details. Hip movements, arm patterns, foot patterns and gaze will be combined in 3 sections: Twists & 8s, Pyramids, and Lucknow Maya, then finally strung together to create an ornate dance phrase. In this workshop, Colleena will begin with a breakdown of six beautiful arm patterns and variations, a great way to begin to warm up the body and clear the space around you, honing your concentration. Reviewing the most important basic spin from North Indian dance, Colleena will jump from there into traveling, unspotted, and stationary spins. They will be broken down and drilled with arm patterns. Finally, we will drill a dance phrase that features arm patterns and spinning techniques at two speeds. Before beginning, be sure your dancing space has a safe surface for fast flat footed turns.

This is an original belly dance choreography by Zoe Jakes to the Beats Antique song "Veil of Tears", created for intermediate to advanced dancers. It includes traveling foot patterns, spins, layering sections, Fusion locking patterns, and some vintage stylization.
This workshop is a companion to Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drill series, focusing on zil or finger cymbal patterns inspired by Jamila Salimpour. The purpose of this workshop is to move beyond mid tempo triplets and challenge dancers with unusual syncopation, fast speeds, and various zil patterns such as longa (or triplets), 337, 3513, running 7s and singles with accents. To increase the challenge and fun, dancers will do this while attempting to layer isolations and travel with different moves. A warm up is recommended before taking this class, or this class may be used in conjunction with Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drills.
This workshop showcases four vintage inspired combinations that can be done with or without finger cymbals, inspired by the vintage belly dance of the west coast tribal lineage of Jamila Salimpour and Katarina Burda. The stylization is earthy glamour: feet rooted firmly to the floor while executing more modern pops and locks, mixing juicy 70's influenced old school with cutting edge Tribal Fusion vocabulary. Zoe will detail the movement phrases, break down the finger cymbal patterns, and then put them together in a dance based drill. A warm up is strongly recommended before attempting this class.
This is a movement phrase from Datura's vocabulary that piggy-backs off of Fat Chance Belly Dance's cued fast step, "The Arabic". This phrase is accompanied by a particular zil composition that combines "The Gallop", "3-5-5", and "3-1-3-1-3". It can be used for solo or group improvisation, or choreography. This is class two in a multi-class series on finger cymbals. We'll combine many of the patterns we learned in "Zil-ionaire : An Introduction to Finger Cymbal Technique", learn some new patterns, and combine them into two combinations, the Arabic Fakeout and the Compton Shuffle. The finger cymbal patterns covered in this belly dance workshop are: "3-7-3", "7s", and alternating singles, with a review of "3-5-5".

In this class April Rose presents three belly dance and indian fusion phrases. The basic principles of the Classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam are introduced: ardhamandala posture, several footwork patterns, or adavus, arm carriage, and hand mudras. Using these principles as a base core belly dance movements, Polynesian details, and Kalbelia Rajasthani traveling steps will be combined to create the fusion phrases which are detailed and drilled with music. The class concludes with a cool down.
In this workshop April Rose explores the intersection of belly dance with Classical Indian dance through 4 fusion phrases. The Classical Indian Odissi posture tribhangi is introduced as well as some footwork, or adavus, that extends from tribhangi. We will also drill modified versions of fundamental Tribal Fusion and belly dance techniques like the Egyptian, Arabic, ASWAT, Sharki Step, lower undulations, and 3/4 hip shimmies, embellishing these movements with Classical Indian arm carriage and hand mudras. We will use these core movements with traveling footwork to create spatial patterns on the dance floor. Lastly, we will cool down with a classical suranamaskar.
This is the third class of a 4-class Intermediate Tribal Fusion belly dance series. In this class, we will practice layering chest slides and circles over hip shimmies and locks. Students will learn a short turn combo and will drill the belly flutter. In addition, we'll break down traveling with twist locks and mayas, and will have a drill session to practice the ¾ and learn a little combination with a few different ¾ steps.
This is the second class of a 4-class Intermediate Tribal Fusion belly dance series. Class begins with a brief warm up which focuses on leg strength and balance and then moves into layering and traveling with a hip shimmy. Students will drill the reverse belly roll, reverse Arabic step, chest figure 8s, paddle turns, and a few ways to travel with a taxim.
This is the first class in a 4-class intermediate Tribal Fusion belly dance series. In this class, dancers begin with a leg-strengthening warm up, followed by drills which include layers over hip shimmies and hip locks, a few simple turns, traveling with hip locks, the Arabic step, and the Sidewinder.
This is a combination that fuses Indian dance and belly dance called "Mohgali Pashto", on a seven count Hindusthani rhythm called "Pashto". In this combination, complicated movements will be broken down and then drilled separately. It features elements from Indian dance including mudras, eye gazes, and arm patterns from classic north Indian dance fused with belly dance vocabulary and strong, accented hip work. Finally the movements will be strung together and repeated on both a slow and fast tempo. Be sure you are warmed up before beginning.
In this workshop students will learn a fusion choreography that draws movement inspiration from Classical Indian, Persian, Central Asian, and Contemporary dance. This choreography includes expansive movements and traveling spins, as well as balancing postures and subtle nuances, making it an engaging composition for the experienced dancer and the new student alike. Suggested attire is a skirt and dancing barefoot is ideal for the North Indian style spins in this choreography. (Be sure the floor surface you are dancing on is appropriate for fast spins, so as not to risk injury.)

This is a slow, lyrical belly dance choreography that includes some muscular, sinuous shape shifting, floorwork, traveling, different kinds of turns and a little yoga fusion. The dancer is encouraged to dance musically—listening to the various instruments within the piece. Various modifications are offered for certain phrases, so that dancers of different levels of flexibility can perform the Fusion choreography safely and beautifully. Be prepared with a pair of knee pads and some footwear for the floorwork and turns.

Each of these dance components will be broken down and explained clearly, allowing for dancers of all levels to gain a greater understanding of these elusive concepts.
Belly Dance Flow Drills have been created for the dedicated dancer as a means to drill almost all dance movements for a well-rounded daily practice. In this workshop Zoe will encourage a balance of strength, flexibility, and Fusion technique, utilizing sun salutations, Pilates, and good old fashioned belly dance. This practice will make you sweat, so drink lots of water, and you'll need a yoga mat and a towel.
This is a fun, challenging, intermediate-level belly dance choreography to "Bounce" by Solace. In this fusion piece we'll play with some locking isolation combinations, layers, funky belly-dance based traveling steps and turns as well as a few Polynesian-inspired moves. This choreography is presented as a solo piece but with a few simple modifications, it can be done as a duet.
