This workshop from April Rose is a chronological breakdown of an intermediate/advanced level choreography that features belly dance roots and contemporary embellishments. Set to the Arabic Jazz song, "Cynthia's Tears" the movement in this dance interprets the melody and inspired by the idea of growth. Techniques include rounded hipwork, spiraling arm pathways, leg extensions, choo choo shimmies, chaîné turns, and a complex layering sequence.

You will work on increasing your endurance through long drills and learning combos quickly. At the end of class you will learn one long master combination to be practiced on both sides, first slowly and then super fast! We all know that learning new movements takes lots of repetition, but keeping what you've learned in your body also takes frequent check ins, albeit with less repetition. Datura's Technique "studies" are a way to effectively practice a lot of material in a short amount of time to keep your technique clean, strong and at your fingertips. The Rib Cage Up study is only 10 minutes long but packs a punch with all the material it contains. This workshop covers all the components of the Rib Cage Up study so you can learn at your own pace and review as necessary.
In this workshop Ashley will teach a sweeping, spinning, expressive choreography set to the beautiful song "Viaje" by Ivan Tucakov and Tambura Rasa. This choreography includes double veil work, a short floorwork section with modification options, and many different types of spins. Offering challenges for all levels, you may choose to perform this piece with either a double or single veil, or modify the choreography to be for duets or larger groups. In this second workshop in Sedona's "Drum Solo Expressions" series we will continue to nourish our musicality skills, working on Drum Solo techniques and identifying Arabic rhythms. Sedona will explain her basic drum solo theory, the main goal in dancing a drum solo, and her process in preparing a drum solo. She will also explore fundamental sounds that comprise a well executed drum solo. Sedona will drill several movements and combinations to familiarize us with the sounds of the drum, with a focus on the energetic and earthy Saidi rhythm. Make sure to be properly warmed up before attempting this class.
In part two of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha Choreography", you will continue to learn a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace, building on what you have learned in part one. In the second half of this choreography, Colleena will draw from her extensive training background in Classical and folk dances of India to bring you challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class.
In part one of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha", you will begin to learn the first half of a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace. Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this part of the choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures, belly dance movements including undulations and mayas, as well as intricate arm patterns. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion Belly Dance choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class. The name of the class comes from a translation of the lyrics, which are part of the epic love tragedy Heer Ranjha written by Waris Shah in 1766.
In this spotlight Sedona will give you an in depth look at the two most basic sounds the tabla makes - Dum and Tek. She will also cover common ending phrases such as Dum Dum Tek, Dum Ka Tek, and Rek Rek. Sedona will teach and drill combos for each of these drum licks. This workshop is a companion to Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drill series, focusing on zil or finger cymbal patterns inspired by Jamila Salimpour. The purpose of this workshop is to move beyond mid tempo triplets and challenge dancers with unusual syncopation, fast speeds, and various zil patterns such as longa (or triplets), 337, 3513, running 7s and singles with accents. To increase the challenge and fun, dancers will do this while attempting to layer isolations and travel with different moves. A warm up is recommended before taking this class, or this class may be used in conjunction with Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drills.

This is class two in a multi-class series on finger cymbals. We'll combine many of the patterns we learned in "Zil-ionaire : An Introduction to Finger Cymbal Technique", learn some new patterns, and combine them into two combinations, the Arabic Fakeout and the Compton Shuffle. The finger cymbal patterns covered in this belly dance workshop are: "3-7-3", "7s", and alternating singles, with a review of "3-5-5".

In this class April Rose presents three belly dance and indian fusion phrases. The basic principles of the Classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam are introduced: ardhamandala posture, several footwork patterns, or adavus, arm carriage, and hand mudras. Using these principles as a base core belly dance movements, Polynesian details, and Kalbelia Rajasthani traveling steps will be combined to create the fusion phrases which are detailed and drilled with music. The class concludes with a cool down.

Belly Dance Flow Drills have been created for the dedicated dancer as a means to drill almost all dance movements for a well-rounded daily practice. This Fusion workshop offers some upper body layering over the 3/4 shimmy as well as three different 3/4 shimmy variations in the lower body. Upper body layers include chest circles, up to down body rolls, and down to up body rolls. Each belly dance movement will be broken down into isolations and then practiced on top of the 3/4 traveling shimmy. Each of the 3/4 shimmy variations combine an accent or shape in the hips: including hip locks up, hip locks down, twists, and slides. We’ll explore three specific variations that include these isolations. This workshop is designed for the experienced dancer who is already comfortable with the basic 3/4 shimmy and is ready to layer and travel!
This is a belly dance basics class, which will include a traveling combination and an isolation combination. For the traveling combo, we will break down the footwork and then add arm movement and hip locks. Next, isolations of the hips, shoulders, and chest will be drilled separately then put together in a combination toward the end. We’ll also practice walking with hip locks and speeding up the feet for a movement called the “choo choo.” Get ready for a fun shimmy drill, too! Have a mat ready for a pilates warm-up and yoga cool-down.
In this Tribal Fusion class, we explore a simple traveling combination and then add arm movements on top. Basic hip and chest movement will also be drilled, with a focus on clean, strong, muscular articulation. A nice, long arm and shoulder drill is included to build strength and stamina for beautiful and graceful arms. We will warm-up and cool-down with a bit of yoga and Pilates so grab your yoga mat as well!
This Tribal Fusion class is designed for the beginning belly dancer or anyone looking to revisit and practice some basic belly dance essentials. In this video, we will start by breaking down belly dance posture. Then we’ll work with some basic footwork and traveling hip locks, upper body isolations, and snake arms. Have a mat ready as we’ll begin with a short yoga and Pilates conditioning sequence.
This 20 min full-body warm-up and workout is inspired by movements from Odissi Classical Dance and Ballet. Designed to create flexibility, strength, and grace in the body, it's a wonderful supplement to any dance practice.Working with this conditioning routine on a regular basis will help improve posture, Increase core strength, and sculpt a long and strong dancers body.
