So... You've never belly danced before, or you are a beginner level belly dancer brand new to Datura Online. Welcome!

This 4 Week course is designed to get you acquainted with a) basic movements in the main styles of belly dance and b) many of our fabulous Datura Online Teachers.

You'll finish the series knowing a little bit about a lot of things, and we hope this introduction can guide you to find whatever teacher and style is calling you most!

This program features two sessions per week: 

One session will be a full class with one of our teachers. This will be a complete class straight through, with warm up and cool down included. Each full class is from a different dancer.

The other session is our mix & match compilation of a complete practice using various segments on our site from multiple teachers. You will get a warm up, technique segment, and a cool down. Both the classes and the compilations fit into one hour time blocks.

For this program, you'll need a yoga mat, water bottle and zils.

Welcome to week 3! This week we'd like to introduce you to Ashley Lopez: our "Belly Dance/Fitness Ninja" (You'll notice why soon!) and a fabulous Tribal Fusion style dancer.

For mix and match this week, Amy Sigil will get you prepared to give your best. Ashley will lead you through Pilates Conditioning to warm up the body and Sedona will break down and drill the shimmy. You'll prepare for the 3/4 shimmy with Ashley, and you will end the session with a cool down.

Beginner's Tribal Fusion Series: Class 1

This class is designed for the beginning belly dancer or anyone looking to revisit and practice some basic belly dance essentials. In this video, we will start by breaking down belly dance posture. Then we’ll work with some basic footwork and traveling, hip locks, upper body isolations, and snake arms. Have a mat ready as we’ll begin with a short yoga and pilates conditioning sequence.

Giving Your Best

If you put in the work, the words of the critics don't have to hurt. Sigil gives a short peptalk to keep you focused on doing your best and knowing what your best is for the moment. This segment is taken from "Unmata's Level 1 Slow ITS Full Lesson 3".

Pilates Conditioning and Warm Up

In this spotlight, we practice the Pilates sideline series; designed to strengthen the side abs, hips, glutes, and inner and outer thighs. This sequence is especially great for strengthening the muscles that are responsible for up/down hip movement, chest slides, hip slides, and lateral (side to side) figure 8’s in the upper and lower body. Basic Shimmy Break Down and Drill

This short spotlight will clearly break down the technique of the Egyptian style shimmy. We will hold the shimmy non-stop for five minutes with various speed and intensity. With consistent practice this drill will help you achieve a gorgeous powerful shimmy. This spotlight is from Sedona's "Super Shimmies & Shimmy Layers" workshop.

Drills for 3/4 Shimmy Preparation

This spotlight focuses on hip isolations (locks up and locks down), calf strengthening dills, and exercises to challenge balance. This video is designed to prepare the dancer for graceful traveling with hip movement. This spotlight is from "The 3/4 Shimmy with Ashley Lopez" workshop.
