Shimmy Power Up

Does your shimmy machine need a tune up? Take it into the shop for a quick overhaul. In just one week, fine tune your drills and boost your technique in less than one hour a day. In this program we'll drill various shimmies including 3/4 shimmies, the choo choo, turkish front-back, classic Egyptian style, traveling with shimmies, and shimmy layers, complete with some fun and energetic combinations. This program is designed for intermediate-advanced dancers looking to kick their shimmies into overdrive!

This program features seven sessions of mix and match Datura Online classes in one week. Each of these sessions will run 45 minutes or less.

Pro Tip

This program is designed to give you a big boost in a short period of time. If you're into this kind of challenge, try to commit to doing this power up in one week. You're also welcome to try the sessions in this program at your own pace - stretching it out for as long as you'd like, and repeating any of the sessions to your heart's content.

If you're loving this routine repeat any or all of the sessions until you feel like you've gotten the most out of it. Repetition is key to understanding and fully embodying dance movements, so keep it up and you'll notice the results. In any case, it's your shimmy machine and you're in the driver's seat!

Ready to shimmy?! We're going to be working on different shimmies every day, touching on all the classic shimmies that you find in belly dance. Each session begins with a warm up to prepare you for some crazy shimmies and ends with a cool down.

Shimmy Warm-Up and Seated Drill

This warm up is great preparation for an extended shimmy drill session. It will stretch and lengthen the side muscles, warm up the low back, and lubricate your joints. Shimmy Layers

In this challenging short segment we hold a consistent shimmy for 15 minutes while adding dynamic head, arm, chest, shoulder, and hip layers. We will also drill shimmies with weight and level changes. This high-energy drill will be sure to increase your shimmy endurance and guide you in executing many intermediate and advanced layers. Cool Down

The Subtle Art: Relaxed and Layered Shimmies

This workshop explores the art of relaxed and controlled shimmies and dramatic shimmy layering. During part one,Tamalyn will teach how to shimmy at different speeds, how to slow down and control shimmies, and how changing the distribution of your weight can prepare you for shimmy layers. During the second part shimmies are layered onto slow movements including hip slides, circles, undulations, and figure 8s.

Power Shimmy Session

This challenging power shimmy session will help to build endurance, strength and grace in your shimmy. You will hold a strong Egyptian shimmy while layering upper body work using 2 – 5 pound hand weights. You will then be guided through a few intermediate shimmy layers.
