Who isn't crazy about shimmies? In this program you'll get to shimmy to your heart's content, working on mastering more shimmies than you can shake a hip scarf at.
Anyone who has tried to shimmy for more than 30 seconds knows it’s so much more than just shakin’ your booty. Here we’ll break down the finer points of multiple styles of shimmies including the fundamental Egyptian knee shimmy, the 3/4 shimmy and it's variations, the big and loose Waggle shimmy, the Freeze, the Choo Choo, shoulder shimmies, the Turkish front-back shimmy, and more.
With detailed instruction from five different teachers, this program focuses on learning to control the speed of your shimmies, isolating your shimmy in different regions of the body, and working with shimmy layers, all in under an hour per session. Build stamina with extended shimmy drills, build the strength you need to power your shimmy with complimentary fitness spotlights, and bring it all together to wow the crowd with impressive shimmy combinations and sequences.
This program is fun to try at any level, but is geared toward experienced dancers. You'll start by reviewing some basics then move quickly into layers and combinations. Learn all the tips and tools you need to achieve the easy, powerful, controlled shimmies you’ve always dreamed of.

This is it! You've made it! In this final week of shimmying, we'll test what we've learned throughout this program in several drill combinations, working on layers and building our shimmy stamina. We'll round up our entire program with one dazzling shimmy combo. Wonderful job!
Sedona will lead you through a short warm up focused on preparing the shoulders, arms, upper back, and wrists for dance. This spotlight is from Sedona's "Goldmine #3 : Vintage American Cabaret Arms, Embellishments, Turns, and Transitions".
In this class we will break down and drill the technique for lovely, loose shoulder shimmies standard to Cabaret style belly dance. Once we have a nice, strong shoulder shimmy we will begin to layer them with different step patterns, level changes, and chest isolations. The 3/4 shimmy is used by belly dancers everywhere. In this segment from her Introduction to the 3/4 Shimmy workshop, Rachel breaks down a simple 3/4 combination, using hip work up and basic foot patterns, while clarifying the simple rhythmic pattern that the shimmy expresses. Some experience with belly dance is useful before taking this class, and advanced dancers may find this clarification helps their shimmies become bigger and cleaner. This shimmy drill warm-up will get you ready for belly dancing in a hurry, while still being carefully sequenced. First we'll warm up the spine, then the joints, then move to hip work before our shimmy drill. Good to practice with other dance videos or just to keep your shimmies big and relaxed. Enjoy!
In this challenging short segment we hold a consistent shimmy for 15 minutes while adding dynamic head, arm, chest, shoulder, and hip layers. We will also drill shimmies with weight and level changes. This high-energy drill will be sure to increase your shimmy endurance and guide you in executing many intermediate and advanced layers. The challenging Choo Choo, when mastered, gives the impression of floating or gliding in space while the hips express a very percussive and striking shimmy.
