This 8 week series provides you with a well-rounded practice geared toward setting you fully into solid intermediate belly dance technique. Whether you're a beginner feeling ready to move forward, or you're already an intermediate dancer who is looking to get back in the saddle of a regular practice schedule, after these 8 weeks of Raq Steady, you'll definitely see changes.

Your program includes yoga and Pilates warm ups and cool downs to increase strength & flexibility, technique classes with all 4 of our Datura teachers, review of essential fundamentals, and two full choreographies.

The weeks are broken into two sessions, which means two days/nights of practice per week. You pick the time that works best for you.

Each session includes a warm up, drills, technique, a combo, and a section of a choreography. Each session is 1 1/2 to 2 hours in length.

For this program, you'll need a yoga mat, water bottle and zils.

Hurray, week 3 is here! This week you’ll do your "Daily Doses" with a really fun phrase called “Pinball” and get some spotlights from Sedona that focus on shimmy layers and isolations with lock patterns. You’ll also keep up the zils, practice yoga and Pilates, and finish learning the Drum Solo. Have fun!

Shoulder Shimmy and Shoulder Shimmy Layers

In this class we will break down and drill the technique for lovely, loose shoulder shimmies standard to Cabaret style belly dance. Once we have a nice, strong shoulder shimmy we will begin to layer them with different step patterns, level changes, and chest isolations. This spotlight is from Sedona's "Super Shimmies & Shimmy Layers" workshop.

Dynamic Drum Solo Choreography: section 5 (start at 47:55 to the end)

Learn a dynamic drum solo choreography. This high-energy piece features isolations, pop and lock patterns, shimmies, shimmy layers and various traveling movements. A fun and well rounded choreo to practice or perform!

Finishing Practice for Flexibility and Relaxation

This practice will bring you from a sweaty, heart-pounding state to a relaxed, loose, open and focused presence. You can practice this after a dance practice, or a long day of work. This belly dance spotlight is from Rachel's Tribal Fusion workshop: "Sinuous and Smoky Phrases".

Zil Drill Spotlight # 2 

This spotlight reviews the basic Triplet or Longa pattern, then introduces two zil patterns that may be used while dancing or while riffing with the music: the 3-1-3-1-3, which matches perfectly with Saiidi or Beledi rhythms and the 3-5-5, a fun syncopated rhythm. They are drilled individually then played together in a fun and challenging zil drill This Tribal Style spotlight is from Colette's "Beginning ATS®: Class 5".

The Sugar Scale

The Sugar scale combines a series of locks and undulations that travel up and down the body. This spotlight is taken from Rachel's "Serpentine Scales: Pinball + Sugar Workshop", which features a combination using both the Pinball and Sugar scales.
