This 8 week series provides you with a well-rounded practice geared toward setting you fully into solid intermediate belly dance technique. Whether you're a beginner feeling ready to move forward, or you're already an intermediate dancer who is looking to get back in the saddle of a regular practice schedule, after these 8 weeks of Raq Steady, you'll definitely see changes.

Your program includes yoga and Pilates warm ups and cool downs to increase strength & flexibility, technique classes with all 4 of our Datura teachers, review of essential fundamentals, and two full choreographies.

The weeks are broken into two sessions, which means two days/nights of practice per week. You pick the time that works best for you.

Each session includes a warm up, drills, technique, a combo, and a section of a choreography. Each session is 1 1/2 to 2 hours in length.

For this program, you'll need a yoga mat, water bottle and zils.

Welcome to week one! You’ll explore core building blocks with Rachel Brice's “Daily Doses”, and begin to work with Zils (finger cymbals) with Colette. You'll also begin the first choreography of the series: Sedona Soulfire’s Dynamic Drum Solo Choreography. Enjoy!

Pilates Conditioning and Warm Up

In this spotlight, we practice the Pilates sideline series; designed to strengthen the side abs, hips, glutes, and inner and outer thighs. This sequence is especially great for strengthening the muscles that are responsible for up/down hip movement, chest slides, hip slides, and lateral (side to side) figure 8’s in the upper and lower body. This spotlight is from Ashley's Tribal Fusion workshop: "The 3/4 Shimmy with Ashley Lopez".

Get your daily dose! The daily dose is a short, efficient practice that has what you need to keep your technique strong, even if you have a crazy schedule: yoga, drills, a short phrase combination, a focus, and a cool down. This daily dose is part of the "Arabic Shimmy" Series.

Isolation Patterns

In this spotlight we will mix and match many of the basic isolations to create complex and interesting patterns. This spotlight is part of Sedona's "Interesting and Innovative Isolations" workshop

Dynamic Drum Solo Choreography: Section 1 (start at 00:00 and end at 11:00)

Learn a dynamic drum solo choreography. This high-energy piece features isolations, pop and lock patterns, shimmies, shimmy layers and various traveling movements. A fun and well rounded choreo to practice or perform!

Basic Short Yoga Sequence

This short but effective yoga practice relaxes the deep and superficial muscles on either side of the spine, and supports the hips and low back. This sequence can be used for your belly dance practice or on it's own. This yoga sequence is part of Rachel's class, "Up Tempo Locks and Isolations".

Zils add a wonderful dimension to any belly dance performance, providing excitement and a celebratory feel while highlighting the rhythms in the music. As with any musical instrument, it takes time to develop a level of proficiency and technique to allow you to play while dancing. Slovenia Slam! This is a fun "scale" or isolation pattern, that involves chest locks, undulations, and a slight level change. Please be warmed up before doing this video. Enjoy!
