Belly Dance Flow ZilsBelly Dance Flow Zils: A Practice for Finger Cymbals

This workshop is a companion to Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drill series, focusing on zil or finger cymbal patterns inspired by Jamila Salimpour. The purpose of this workshop is to move beyond mid tempo triplets and challenge dancers with unusual syncopation, fast speeds, and various zil patterns such as longa (or triplets), 337, 3513, running 7s and singles with accents. To increase the challenge and fun, dancers will do this while attempting to layer isolations and travel with different moves. A warm up is recommended before taking this class, or this class may be used in conjunction with Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drills.

Online Belly Dance Lesson: Zil Spotlight #1 with ColetteZil Drill Spotlight #1 with Colette

Zils add a wonderful dimension to any belly dance performance, providing excitement and a celebratory feel while highlighting the rhythms in the music. As with any musical instrument, it takes time to develop a level of proficiency and technique to allow you to play while dancing. This spotlight introduces three zil patterns used in all styles of belly dance: Triplets or Longa, Military or 3-3-7, and Alternating. They are drilled individually then played together in a fun and challenging zil drill.

This spotlight is from class 3 in Colette's Beginner's ATS® Series.

They are drilled individually then played together in a fun and challenging zil drill.

This spotlight is from class 5 in Colette's Beginner's ATS® Series.
