Proudly presenting "Raqs Assaya" an original Egyptian style cane choreography with Henna!

The DO Belly Dance Challenge is over but here's a new super fun and playful choreography for you to grab your cane or stick and learn right now. Enjoy!

This choreography is to the original song, "Saidi Daudi" by David Reihs.

 

Ornament and Express"Raqs Assaya" : An Original Choreography

This raqs assaya choreography combines elements of Egyptian raqs sharki, American Cabaret, and Saidi into a dynamic and fun dance. Basic assaya technique will be used to frame or accompany earthy hips and Saidi footwork. Since we are adding a prop to belly dance movement, this choreography is best suited for dancers with a solid foundation in basic belly dance. Please be sure to warm up before starting this choreography.

Datura Style Technique with Rachel Brice

Boom! We're over the moon to share this new workshop from Rachel Brice: "Datura Style Technique: Fundamental Positions and Combinations".

This workshop is for any dancer craving detail, clarity, and consistency for Tribal Fusion technique. The fundamentals of Datura Style technique, including specific foot, arm, and leg placement are covered with a concise practice and two combinations that can be used for improvisation or choreography.
The first of a series covering Datura Style, this class lays the foundation that you can return to again and again to support a strong and consistent razor-sharp practice. Enjoy!

Datura Style Technique with Rachel BriceDatura Style Technique: Fundamental Positions and Combinations

This unusual workshop is actually two classes in one: A fundamentals practice and demonstration, followed by a challenging dance portion.

1) In the first half of this workshop Rachel will detail and practice Datura's fundamental placement for the arms, legs, feet, and full body for Tribal and Tribal Fusion dancers. Next you’ll learn a short sequence that integrates these fundamentals so when practiced regularly they’ll become second nature. This detailed work was created as a reference that you can return to again and again for detail about the fundamentals.

2) In the second half of the workshop, you’ll learn 2 new challenging combinations from Datura’s emerging vocabulary, Arabic Hip Twist variation and Cherry Moon, that include many of these foot and arm positions.

Beautiful, meaningful hands and arms are powerful assets for belly dance. So many emotions can be expressed through the ornamentation and expression of the hands and arms. In this workshop we will practice everything from basic techniques of hand and arm movements to polished expression. Starting with ornamentation, then moving onto expression and finally into communication, we will explore the purposes for arm and hand movement in the belly dance repertoire.

Effortless Elegance with April Rose Effortless Elegance

In this workshop the effortless and earthy Egyptian style shimmy of classic belly dance is fused with crisp and elegant turns and movements from western dance. We begin with a warm up to activate our brain and bodies. We then learn chainé turns with spotting and arm layers, followed by a detailed breakdown of the Egyptian knee shimmy. Finally we learn a traveling flip turn forward and back with hip locks and upper body layers. These movements are then combined into a drill-able dance combination, ending with a cool down for the hamstrings and quads.

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of Cabaret style floorwork. We will explore the 3 main building blocks of a well-rounded floor work routine: working postures, embellishment postures, and traveling and transitional movements, as well as descents and ascents. Basic belly dance isolations and hip work will be layered and drilled on top of various floorwork postures. We will then link movements and postures to create seamless floorwork sequences. Make sure the surface you are practicing on is safe for floor work and that your knees are comfortable, either using kneepads or a yoga mat for extra padding if you need it.

Indian Fusion Choreography "Heer Rajnha", pt. 2 with Colleena Shakti

Presenting part 2 of Colleena Shakti's new choreography, "Heer Ranjha".

In part 2 you'll work with challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography.

In part one of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha", you will begin to learn the first half of a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace. Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this part of the choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures, belly dance movements including undulations and mayas, as well as intricate arm patterns. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion Belly Dance choreography.
