New Workshop with Colleena Shakti: 10/1/15

Indian Fusion Choreography "Heer Rajnha", pt. 2 with Colleena Shakti

Presenting part 2 of Colleena Shakti's new choreography, "Heer Ranjha".

In part 2 you'll work with challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography.

In part two of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha Choreography", you will continue to learn a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace, building on what you have learned in part one. In the second half of this choreography, Colleena will draw from her extensive training background in Classical and folk dances of India to bring you challenging spins, complex foot and arm patterns inspired by Indian dance, and concepts from various Indian dances including "Chamak", "Drishti", and "Griva". Belly dance movements such as hip drops and lifts, figure 8's, and soft, fluid transitions will be interwoven throughout this second half of the choreography.  Online Indian Fusion Choreography Heer Rajnha with Colleena Shakti"Heer Rajnha" : Original Indian Fusion Choreography, Part 1

In part one of Colleena's "Heer Ranjha", you will begin to learn the first half of a choreography to the song "Vishnu Groove" by Solace. Inspired by dance poses found in Indian sculpture, paintings, and Classical Dance, this part of the choreography features strong languid postures, precise hand gestures, belly dance movements including undulations and mayas, as well as intricate arm patterns. Interweaving soft transitions that carry the elegance of the Classical Indian aesthetic with punctuated earthy belly dance movement, a balance is found through layering these different movement qualities in this unique Indian Fusion Belly Dance choreography. Please be sure that you are dancing on a safe surface for fast, flat footed turns, and make sure to warm up and cool down before and after taking this class. The name of the class come from a translation of the lyrics, which are part of the epic love tragedy Heer Ranjha by Waris Shah written in 1766.

New Original Choreography Workshop: 1/29/15

Marigold Garden: Original Choreography by April Rose

We can't think of a better way to end such a mega-month of new releases than with part 2 of April Rose's original Indian Fusion choreography, "Marigold Garden"! It features an original song entitled "From India" by ElitrickKids.

The second half of this choreo continues with a playful and challenging fusion of Indian dance elements including mudras, rajasthani hip work, and tribungi postures with classic belly dance vocabulary.

This choreography was made to pair with her "Infusion: Indian Fusion Technique" workshops.

 Marigold Garden, Part 1: April Rose"Marigold Garden", Part 2: Original Choreography by April Rose

In part two of April Rose's "Marigold Garden", we will continue to learn a choreography to the song "From India", building on what we have learned in part one. This half of the choreography features elements of Indian dance including rajasthani hip drops, katak hand movements, several mudras, tribungi postures, and foot patterns combined with belly dance vocabulary such as the jewel, taxim, and maya. April Rose will chronologically break down the movements for each section of the dance, drill them to music, and then run through the choreography as it builds. We will move quickly through the dance and a warm up is recommended prior to beginning.

Infusion #2: Indian Fusion Choreography Workshop

Presenting a new workshop with April Rose Dancer, "Infusion #2: Indian Fusion Technique".

This second "Infusion" workshop presents 3 fusion phrases that combine techniques from Classical Indian dance, belly dance, and western movement to create dynamic movement combinations. This workshop is packed with traveling steps, footwork, mudras, postures, and lots of beautiful belly dance technique and is a great complement to her new choreography workshop. Enjoy!

This choreography was also made to complement her "Infusion: Indian Fusion Technique" workshop.

 Infusion #2 with April RoseInfusion #2: Indian Fusion Technique Workshop

In this class April Rose presents 3 belly dance and indian fusion phrases. The basic principles of the Classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam are introduced: ardhamandala posture, several footwork patterns, or adavus, arm carriage, and hand mudras. Using these principles as a base core belly dance movements, Polynesian details, and Kalbelia Rajasthani traveling steps will be combined to create the fusion phrases which are detailed and drilled with music. The class concludes with a cool down.

Marigold Garden: Original Choreography by April Rose

We're proud to present part one of April Rose Dancer's original Indian Fusion choreography "Marigold Garden"!

This choreography is a challenging and playful homage to springtime love with movements that draw from Indian dance, western dance, and belly dance. It features an original song entitled "From India" by ElitrickKids.

This choreography was made to pair with her "Infusion: Indian Fusion Technique" workshops.

Infusion : Indian Fusion Technique with April Rose

Join us in welcoming April Rose to Datura Online with her first of many online classes, "Infusion: Indian Fusion Technique"!

Explore the intersection of Classical Indian dance, western movement, and belly dance through carefully detailed technique drills and breakdowns that build into 4 dynamic fusion phrases.

 April Rose : InfusionInfusion: Indian Fusion Technique

In this workshop April Rose explores the intersection of belly dance with Classical Indian dance through 4 fusion phrases. The Classical Indian Odissi posture tribhangi is introduced as well as some footwork, or adavus, that extends from tribhangi. We will also drill modified versions of fundamental Tribal Fusion and belly dance techniques like the Egyptian, Arabic, ASWAT, Sharki Step, lower undulations, and 3/4 hip shimmies, embellishing these movements with Classical Indian arm carriage and hand mudras. We will use these core movements with traveling footwork to create spatial patterns on the dance floor. Lastly, we will cool down with a classical suryanamaskar.
