You will begin with a focus on elemental belly dance movement and move into compound layers that focus on stacking torso isolations and hipwork. You will carve space with luscious arm patterns and learn new ways to segment the body with punctuated isolations. This workshop begins with a warm up and ends with a cool down.

This quick 30 minute cardiovascular interval training routine will give you the fantastic work out you need, without any equipment, without needing to get out and run a million miles. All exercises are body-weight based, so you can make them high or low-impact and you can go as easy or difficult as you like. Feeling tired? Slow it down. Want to get into a higher heart rate zone? Healthy flexibility is a combination of range of motion in the joints, length of the muscles and connective tissues as well as strength, stability, balance, and proprioception. This workshop is designed to help you safely and effectively increase flexibility through a variety of fitness, yoga, Pilates and circus training techniques. We will work on getting into front splits, side splits and a few different back bending poses. At the end of class we will learn a short movement combination that will breakdown how to transition from one pose to the other. A final abdominal strengthening sequence will be practiced to leave you feeling strong and energized!
Ready for a challenge? In this class we will practice combinations designed for the advanced dancer, layering isolations and shapes, sequencing movements, learning tricky footwork and drilling different kinds of spins. You will work on increasing your endurance through long drills and learning combos quickly. At the end of class you will learn one long master combination to be practiced on both sides, first slowly and then super fast! Remember to have fun with this; the video is meant to be repeatable so we hope you find it challenging enough to return to over and over again.
This short practice is designed to energize you, awakening the mind and warming up the body with a particular focus on the spine. You will be taken through a short centering and pranayama practice and then through a series of flowing yoga postures. This breath-centric practice includes hip openers, hamstring stretches, gentle strengthening and some cross body movements to challenge coordination and balance. In this brief but efficient class you will move the body through all planes and will incorporate all movements of the spine: forward bends, twists, side bends and backward bends. This practice is for all levels, though beginners may find it a fun challenge.
Beautiful, meaningful hands and arms are powerful assets for belly dance. So many emotions can be expressed through the ornamentation and expression of the hands and arms. In this workshop we will practice everything from basic techniques of hand and arm movements to polished expression. Starting with ornamentation, then moving onto expression and finally into communication, we will explore the purposes for arm and hand movement in the belly dance repertoire.
This workshop is an exercise in playing multiple sounds on the finger cymbals as well as listening closely to the music. Henna will teach several Raqs Sharki style combinations, each using a different sound or basic pattern to compliment the character of the music. Basic foot patterns lay a foundation for movement in the body that can be changed to accommodate different levels of dancers, or different sounds in the music. We build each combination from the ground up so that dancers can layer on complexity as his/her ability improves.
This workshop introduces a way of playing finger cymbals using three different sounds: open, closed, and tic. Through a breakdown and drills we aim for clarity of tone and timing before moving the body. Henna will begin by introducing some basic musical concepts and you will work on playing the different sounds of the finger cymbals at several tempos, all while increasing the number of notes you can play in a measure. Henna will also breakdown the gallop pattern and the basic run: the building blocks for more intricate finger cymbal compositions and playing. After learning a few of the sounds the finger cymbals can make, Henna will begin to pair the sounds with basic foot patterns and arms. The workshop culminates in a combination that combines all three of the finger cymbal sounds with a basic foot pattern and some elegant Raqs Sharki arm frames.
In this workshop we will be focusing on getting a strong and vivacious shimmy! Sedona will be sharing exercises and drills designed to strengthen, stretch and open the muscles around the knee joints in order to support the Egyptian Knee Shimmy. You will be shimmying through different timing manipulations and traveling movements that will help you to increase the stamina and mobility of your shimmy.
This workshop covers more techniques of the luscious Veil Dance. Sedona will detail various veil wraps as well as tips and nuances for a flawless veil performance. You will drill and dance many different transitions, spins, frames, and crescendos. All of the veil movements will then be put into combinations and lovely show ready veil sequences.
In this workshop Sedona will cover three contemporary cabaret stylized combinations. These combinations will include some of the most luscious cabaret style movements: vertical hip circles, undulations and large hip bumps. Sedona will add some spice and sizzle to these combos by incorporating frames, dramatic poses, traveling foot patterns, turns, and weight shifts. Make sure you are properly warmed up before taking this class.

In this workshop Ashley will teach a sweeping, spinning, expressive choreography set to the beautiful song "Viaje" by Ivan Tucakov and Tambura Rasa. This choreography includes double veil work, a short floorwork section with modification options, and many different types of spins. Offering challenges for all levels, you may choose to perform this piece with either a double or single veil, or modify the choreography to be for duets or larger groups. Have a great time making it your own!
This is a brief, efficient and intense workout that will take your body through all planes of movement and will work every major muscle group. Moving swiftly, you'll be taken through a brief warm up and then proceed to some body-weight training inspired by yoga, Pilates and classic fitness exercises. You'll need just enough space to lie down on the floor, no props or extra equipment needed. You can perform this anywhere! And when you're done, you'll be able to take a run, drill some choreography, or take a nap...you'll be ready for anything!
This unusual workshop is actually two classes in one: A fundamentals practice and demonstration, followed by a challenging dance portion. 1) In the first half of this workshop Rachel will detail and practice Datura's fundamental placement for the arms, legs, feet, and full body for Tribal and Tribal Fusion dancers. Next you’ll learn a short sequence that integrates these fundamentals so when practiced regularly they’ll become second nature. This detailed work was created as a reference that you can return to again and again for detail about the fundamentals. 2) In the second half of the workshop, you’ll learn 2 new challenging combinations from Datura’s emerging vocabulary, Arabic Hip Twist variation and Cherry Moon, that include many of these foot and arm positions. And for the finale!: You and Rachel will play with some lead-and-follow improvisation to get a sense of how to use these combinations in a group improvisation. In this workshop we will begin with a warm up for back and belly strength, as well as a balance challenge in relevé. We'll really turn the heat up with a detailed breakdown and drill of the choo choo shimmy. We'll add upper and lower undulations, layered with shoulder and 3/4 hip shimmy, to a ball change stepping pattern and then play with horizontal and vertical variations of the figure eight in our chest and hips, throwing in a skate turn and the syncopated hip 8 called the jewel. In the cool down we'll do some circular forward folds to bring down the heart rate.
In this workshop the effortless and earthy Egyptian style shimmy of classic belly dance is fused with crisp and elegant turns and movements from western dance. We begin with a warm up to activate our brain and bodies. We then learn chainé turns with spotting and arm layers, followed by a detailed breakdown of the Egyptian knee shimmy. Finally we learn a traveling flip turn forward and back with hip locks and upper body layers. These movements are then combined into a drill-able dance combination, ending with a cool down for the hamstrings and quads.
This workshop is a chronological breakdown of a classic choreography that reimagines dance in the Casino Badia era or 1920s Cairo. This historically inspired dance features skeletal shimmy technique, figure eights, weighted internal hip circles, balletic turns, elevated posture, and traveling undulations, all set to a Sama'i rhythm performed by George Sawa. We will move quickly through this dance so please be sure to warm up before beginning this choreography. This raqs assaya choreography combines elements of Egyptian raqs sharki, American Cabaret, and Saidi into a dynamic and fun dance. Basic assaya technique will be used to frame or accompany earthy hips and Saidi footwork. Since we are adding a prop to belly dance movement, this choreography is best suited for dancers with a solid foundation in basic belly dance. Please be sure to warm up before starting this choreography.

This workshop introduces several movements for Raqs Assaya: Egyptian Cane Dance. Starting with it's folkloric roots, each combination moves a little closer to raqs sharki assaya in order to give you background for the movements and builds in complexity as we move along. We will discuss the martial art of Tahteeb, the predecessor to our modern raqs assaya, as well as several cane movements and postures that go with the lovely and earthy Saidi rhythm. This workshop begins with a warm up to prepare the body for dance. This introduction to raqs assaya will get the feeling of this fun, earthy dance into your body and get that cane swinging!

Drilling these moves will get the rhythms into your body and evoke classic musicality in your dancing. Movements from the american cabaret vocabulary are introduced for each rhythm including a box step with shoulder accents, the basic bouncy walk, barrel turn, camel with shimmy for the Turkish Chiftetelli and the karachi 5, an omi spin, and a traveling step for the Karachi rhythm. The class begins with a brief standing warm up.

In this workshop Sadie will breakdown one of the most quintessential belly dance movements, the shimmy, and explore many different variations of the shimmy in different parts of the body. She will cover the basic hip shimmy and Egyptian style shimmy, pelvic shimmies, circle shimmies, twist shimmies, and the flutter, or shimmy of the belly. You will learn how to power all these shimmies with not only the legs, but also the glutes, hips, and abdomen. In this workshop Sedona gives you a great challenge to amp up your belly dance practice: stringing together different isolated movements into complex patterns. Sedona will drill various belly dance isolations, using these movements to build three complex patterns that will increase your body's agility and ability to transition between movements with grace and strength. Complex isolation patterns with perfect posture can be one of the most dynamic parts of your belly dance routine. In this workshop, Sedona will lead you through isolated belly dance movements, emphasizing posture and alignment, to add a strong accent to your belly dance repertoire. This workshop begins with a short warm up focusing on posture to prepare your body to dance, followed by a drill of basic internal isolated movement in various postures. Sedona will then slowly build two intricate and isolated combinations that use interior hip circles, chest and hip layers, and belly locks that will be drilled at various tempos. These two combinations will then be combined with a traveling foot pattern to create a long drill combination.
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of Cabaret style floorwork. We will explore the 3 main building blocks of a well-rounded floor work routine: working postures, embellishment postures, and traveling and transitional movements, as well as descents and ascents. Basic belly dance isolations and hip work will be layered and drilled on top of various floorwork postures. We will then link movements and postures to create seamless floorwork sequences. Make sure the surface you are practicing on is safe for floor work and that your knees are comfortable, either using kneepads or a yoga mat for extra padding if you need it.

The richly ornate Indian embellishments that Colleena uses in Indian fusion are carefully selected from her years of experience training in both Odissi and Kathak dance. Subtle concepts that lie within the movements are explained, so as to carry over the charming air of Indian aesthetics to your Fusion Belly Dance. In this workshop, Colleena will begin with a breakdown of six beautiful arm patterns and variations, a great way to begin to warm up the body and clear the space around you, honing your concentration. Reviewing the most important basic spin from North Indian dance, Colleena will jump from there into traveling, unspotted, and stationary spins. They will be broken down and drilled with arm patterns. Finally, we will drill a dance phrase that features arm patterns and spinning techniques at two speeds. Before beginning, be sure your dancing space has a safe surface for fast flat footed turns.

This is an original belly dance choreography by Zoe Jakes to the Beats Antique song "Veil of Tears", created for intermediate to advanced dancers. It includes traveling foot patterns, spins, layering sections, Tribal Fusion locking patterns, and some vintage stylization.
This workshop is a companion to Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drill series, focusing on zil or finger cymbal patterns inspired by Jamila Salimpour. The purpose of this workshop is to move beyond mid tempo triplets and challenge dancers with unusual syncopation, fast speeds, and various zil patterns such as longa (or triplets), 337, 3513, running 7s and singles with accents. To increase the challenge and fun, dancers will do this while attempting to layer isolations and travel with different moves. A warm up is recommended before taking this class, or this class may be used in conjunction with Zoe's Belly Dance Flow Drills.
The trifecta of a strong dancer is technique, strength, and flexibility. In this Tribal Fusion belly dance workshop expect new and creative drills for your own personal practice. All aspects of movement will be touched on from inside out, from head to hips, encouraging use of breath, energy and connection. Belly Dance Flow Drills 2 follows the same format as the original flow drills with new foot and arm patterns. Vinyasa yoga is interspersed throughout this workshop to prevent injury and support endurance. The goal of the flow drills series is to impart a solid foundation of dance movement with high impact and high energy drills to develop strong, versatile dancers equipped for a variety of belly dance styles.
This workshop showcases four vintage inspired combinations that can be done with or without finger cymbals, inspired by the vintage belly dance of the west coast tribal lineage of Jamila Salimpour and Katarina Burda. The stylization is earthy glamour: feet rooted firmly to the floor while executing more modern pops and locks, mixing juicy 70's influenced old school with cutting edge Tribal Fusion vocabulary. Zoe will detail the movement phrases, break down the finger cymbal patterns, and then put them together in a dance based drill. A warm up is strongly recommended before attempting this class.
This is class two in a multi-class series on finger cymbals. We'll combine many of the patterns we learned in "Zil-ionaire : An Introduction to Finger Cymbal Technique", learn some new patterns, and combine them into two combinations, the Arabic Fakeout and the Compton Shuffle. The finger cymbal patterns covered in this belly dance workshop are: "3-7-3", "7s", and alternating singles, with a review of "3-5-5".
This comprehensive ﬁnger cymbal workshop will start at the very beginning with four fundamental patterns, and will get you moving with your ﬁnger cymbals right away. You'll learn about the building blocks of pattern construction, and we'll dance each pattern with a simple belly dance phrase, so you'll be playing and dancing in your first session.

This workshop is inspired by the bold and beautiful movements of American Belly Dancers of the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. We will breakdown and drill the Camel with a twist, Lee Ali Hip lifts, Toe Toe Sit, Step Shift Pose, Forward Wheel, Yin Yang, Cyclone, and Body 8's with Level Changes. This American Cabaret style class includes a short warm up and brief cool down.
This workshop focuses on fun and dynamic vintage American Cabaret belly dance movements. Inspired by dancers of the 60's, 70's, and 80's, these movements and techniques have a distinctive flair. We will cover 8 movements including, the Back and Back, Big Loop Little Loop, Wild 8's, Samihah, Heel Drop, Double Drop, Bumps, the Twist, and the 3/4 Twist. Each movement is broken down and then drilled in a dance based combination. This workshop also has a brief warm up and cool down.
In April Rose's "Marigold Garden", we will learn an original choreography to the song "From India". This choreography features movements from Indian dance such as mudras, rajasthani hip drops, tribhangi posture, and complex footwork with kathak inspired arm patterns, combined with belly dance technique and traveling steps. April Rose will chronologically break down the movements for each section of the dance, drill them to music, and then run through the choreography as it builds. We will move quickly through the dance and a warm up is recommended prior to beginning.
In this class April Rose presents three belly dance and indian fusion phrases. The basic principles of the Classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam are introduced: ardhamandala posture, several footwork patterns, or adavus, arm carriage, and hand mudras. Using these principles as a base core belly dance movements, Polynesian details, and Kalbelia Rajasthani traveling steps will be combined to create the fusion phrases which are detailed and drilled with music. The class concludes with a cool down.
In this workshop April Rose explores the intersection of belly dance with Classical Indian dance through 4 fusion phrases. The Classical Indian Odissi posture tribhangi is introduced as well as some footwork, or adavus, that extends from tribhangi. We will also drill modified versions of fundamental Tribal Fusion and belly dance techniques like the Egyptian, Arabic, ASWAT, Sharki Step, lower undulations, and 3/4 hip shimmies, embellishing these movements with Classical Indian arm carriage and hand mudras. We will use these core movements with traveling footwork to create spatial patterns on the dance floor. Lastly, we will cool down with a classical suranamaskar.
In ATS®, there are specialized movement variations that were developed particularly for duets. These include passing and crossing moves that work best, and are most effective, when executed by a pair of dancers. This Intermediate class celebrates Duets and movements developed for two dancers, including Camel Walk Crossing, Wrap-Around Turn Crossing, Arm Flourish Crossing. Each variation will be paired with slow or fast basic ATS® moves so grab a partner and get your zils ready!
This class includes favorite fast ATS® movements with a focus on exciting spins and turns. The Arabic Shimmy with Arms and Turn (ASWAT) will be introduced, including a complete breakdown on how to cue this advanced move. Calibrated Spins will be explained and tips for practicing spinning will be given. Finally, Egyptian Full Turn will be added to the mix and we'll drill all these moves with other basic ATS® movements and our Zils. This belly dance class ends with a well deserved cool down.
The theme for this Intermediate level class is ½ Turns! We begin with a ½ Turn variation of the classic ATS® Torso Twist, then introduce Single Bump ½ Turn and Ghawazee ½ Turn along with the Ghawazee ¼ Turn. Each movement will be broken down and the cues for group improvisation explained then they will be drilled with ATS® basic moves to demonstrate and practice transitions. Zils will be used with the fast moves.
Circle Step with third Turns, Chico Four Corners and Arabic Hip-Twist with Flourish are the stars of this Intermediate level American Tribal Style belly dance class. Beginning with slow ATS® movements, we'll review the elegant Circle Step, explain the best transition out of this move, then add a third turn. Put your Zils on as we introduce Chico Four Corners and Arabic Hip-Twist with Flourish and drill these movements facing the front and also facing your partner. Each new movement will be matched with basic ATS® vocabulary to practice transitions and flow.
This Intermediate level class introduces a slow Flamenco inspired move called the Barrel Turn, a variation on Turkish Shimmy which adds arms and a ½ turn, and a fun undulation with accented chest drops called Arabic 1-2-3. Each movement will be broken down and the cues for group improvisation explained, then they will be drilled with ATS® basic moves to demonstrate and practice transitions. Zils will be used with the fast moves.
Saidi is a fun and earthy folkloric dance from Upper Egypt. The saidi rhythm is one of the most popular rhythms and many raqs sharki sets include a saidi section. In this workshop Henna will breakdown the components of the Saidi rhythm and teach three distinct belly dance combinations inspired by influential belly dancers. The movements and combinations will be drilled and practiced at varying speeds with the saidi rhythm.
This is a very slow-paced, gentle, restorative yoga practice. In this class, each pose is supported by various props and is held for several minutes. An emphasis is placed on breath work, a sense of calm and relaxation and a meditation-mindset. This class is designed to deeply stretch the muscles and break up the fascia so while the poses are supported and are taught slowly, they can still be quite intense. Students are encouraged to take each pose at their own pace, use props which make them comfortable, and listen to their bodies.
This workshop focuses on some fundamentals of head, shoulder, arm, and hand movement for belly dance. Basic technique is broken down slowly including poses, isolations, shapes, hand gestures, and head slides and circles. Movements are repeated so that students have a chance to practice and drill to perfection. Ashley will describe what is happening anatomically in the bones, joints and muscles and demonstrate the movements, describing exactly where students should feel the origin of movement and how the body is powering the exercise so that students understand the mechanics behind these techniques and are able to physically execute them as well.
This is a combination that fuses Indian dance and belly dance called "Mohgali Pashto", on a seven count Hindusthani rhythm called "Pashto". In this combination, complicated movements will be broken down and then drilled separately. It features elements from Indian dance including mudras, eye gazes, and arm patterns from classic north Indian dance fused with belly dance vocabulary and strong, accented hip work. Finally the movements will be strung together and repeated on both a slow and fast tempo. Be sure you are warmed up before beginning.
In this workshop students will learn a fusion choreography that draws movement inspiration from Classical Indian, Persian, Central Asian, and Contemporary dance. This choreography includes expansive movements and traveling spins, as well as balancing postures and subtle nuances, making it an engaging composition for the experienced dancer and the new student alike. Suggested attire is a skirt and dancing barefoot is ideal for the North Indian style spins in this choreography. Drawing inspiration from several classical Indian forms, this workshop highlights detailed movements in the eyes, head and hands that help create the rich Indian aesthetic. Carefully chosen hand movements (mudras), eye movements (drishti), and head movements (griva) will be broken down and drilled. Focusing on detailed and graceful movements, this workshop can be done seated in any attire.
Controlled, precise spins are the goal of this workshop and relevant for the beginner, as well as the advanced dancer. We will begin with a grounding Vinyasa Krama Yoga routine and establish arm patterns with a Kathak classical dance inspired drill. Spinning techniques from North Indian classical dance will lead the way into short spin combinations on an eleven count Hindustani rhythm. An endurance spinning drill is also included to practice spinning for greater durations. Be ready to push through to the next level no matter where you are with your dance. This workshop builds on the basic steps of Rajasthani dance and develops a more stylized direction based on Colleena's experience and interpretation of the music. Stylistic movements, four basic spins, and two advanced spins will be broken down and drilled. Finally, all the movements will come together in a fun, fast-paced fusion combination set to Rajasthani music. This workshop will introduce the basic components of Rajasthani folk dance such as: Posture, mudras (hand positions) and the basic foot pattern. We will take four dance movements, the "Basic Step", "Chedi Arm Variation", "Ghoomar Arm Variation", and the "Ghoomar Spin", that will introduce the student to movements of several folk styles from within Rajasthan. This workshop is perfect as a first introduction to Rajasthani dance, as well as for a dancer who wants to brush up on fundamental movements in this style. This Egyptian technique workshop introduces three more movements from Egyptian style belly dance: the camel, the reverse arabesque, and the inside out turn. We revisit the sharki step to add some advanced layers. A few variations will accompany each break-down and we will cycle through some drills to get them into your muscle memory. Finally, the movements will also be danced together in a short combination. This workshop includes a short warm up to get you ready to dance.

This belly dance workshop explores the art of relaxed and controlled shimmies and dramatic shimmy layering. During part one, Tamalyn will teach how to shimmy at different speeds, how to slow down and control shimmies, and how changing the distribution of your weight can prepare you for shimmy layers. During the second part shimmies are layered onto slow movements including hip slides, circles, undulations, and figure 8s.
Belly Dance is an art with many nuances and complexities. In this workshop, Tamalyn explores three fundamental concepts: isolations, integration and layering that are keys to elegant and expressive belly dancing. Tamalyn breaks down fundamental isolations and demonstrates how to integrate isolated movements to allow them to radiate throughout the body. Basic layering is explored and used to demonstrate how layers can be used in isolation and integration to vary your dance. You will also learn the difference between these three concepts, which is fundamental in understanding Arabic vs. American or western styles.
This belly dance workshop will show how to get big, juicy, relaxed movements by focusing on the energy of the earth and working through your feet. We begin by allowing our basic hip and chest moves to spill over our feet, which drive the movement. Those movements will become a combination.

This challenging Tribal Fusion Belly Dance choreography is built for a soloist or any size group, would make a great opener or closer for a longer set, or could stand on its own as a single piece in a larger show. It demands a lot of strength and flexibility, and includes laybacks, drops, zippers, torso rotations, level changes, some layering and a lot of hipwork. This is a contemporary take on a style of music that is usually reserved for a traditional Turkish man's dance.
This challenging shimmy class features multiple shimmy variations, layers and traveling movements. You will start off with a long and strong power shimmy session designed to build the endurance and power of your shimmy. Various belly dance shimmies are then worked into drill based combinations. You will need 2-5 pound hand or wrist weights. This class is great for someone who has a solid understanding of the Basic Egyptian and ¾ shimmies and is looking to cultivate more advanced shimmy techniques.
This Egyptian technique workshop introduces four of the fundamental movements of classic Egyptian belly dance. You will drill some isolations and concepts unique to Egyptian style as well as some universal foot patterns and quintessentially gooey movement. At the end of the workshop, all four movements are put into a combo that can be used for practice or performance. We start with a brief warm-up before moving into the workshop.

This American Cabaret Style workshop covers 4 different types of shimmies: the choo choo, the waggle shimmy, the Turkish front back shimmy, and the freeze. It includes a warm up with a very unique seated shimmy drill that will help you gain the muscle memory needed to execute stellar shimmies. Each shimmy is broken down, drilled and then finally put into one extended drill based combination.
This is a slow, lyrical belly dance choreography that includes some muscular, sinuous shape shifting, floorwork, traveling, different kinds of turns and a little yoga fusion. The dancer is encouraged to dance musically—listening to the various instruments within the piece. Various modifications are offered for certain phrases, so that dancers of different levels of flexibility can perform the Tribal Fusion choreography safely and beautifully. Be prepared with a pair of knee pads and some footwear for the floorwork and turns.
This is a gentle, beginner's yoga class designed to get dancers familiar with the most common poses in yoga. These poses create a foundation for belly dance training which will increase flexibility, strength, and balance. In this gentle and slower paced practice, we will focus on good alignment, breath, and body awareness.
After a quick warm up, we'll introduce Turning Torso Twist and Head Slides then review 3 slow turns in this ATS® basic class. Double-bump and Single Bump are introduced and we'll add 1⁄2 turns to Arabic Hip-Twist. The Diagonal formation is introduced and transitions between formations are broken down and drilled with both slow and fast movements. Class ends with a cool down.
This beginning level ATS® class starts with a warm up then arm position review. Circle Step is introduced and basic slow movements are layered with traveling steps. We review Egyptian Basic and introduce Up-Up-Down-Down-Down (Up2-Down3). Zil patterns used in ATS® but applicable to all styles of belly dance are reviewed and paired with movements. Class finishes with a fast drill and a cool down.
This is an intermediate yoga and Pilates combination class designed with the belly dancer’s needs in mind. A full-body workout includes lots of leg and abdominal strengthening, as well as many hip and shoulder openers and some special work for the hamstrings. We highly recommend that you have some prior experience with yoga and Pilates before taking this class, and that you practice with mindfulness of your boundaries and take and necessary modifications. You will need a yoga strap, a yoga block, and a mat for this session.
This is an intermediate yoga and Pilates flow class designed for students who have some prior experience with yoga and Pilates. This well-balanced practice was designed with the dancer in mind, so you’ll be getting a full-body stretch and strengthen class which also focuses on backward bending and balance, as well as several twists and side bends to improve your figure 8’s, chest circles, and sidewinder. Grab a yoga block, a mat, a towel, and some water.
This intermediate to advanced level workshop will help those already proficient in deep bodywaves to achieve the coveted layback-drop-zipper combination. We begin with a yoga practice to strengthen the large muscles of the back, and to lengthen the hip flexors. Rachel then breaks down The Layback, The Cobra Basket turn, and drills The Zipper. Then you’ll move on to learning a challenging Tribal Fusion combination that includes laybacks, drops, berber walks, the Zipper, the Cobra Basket Turn, the Camel Walk Plunge and others. The belly dance combo can be used for group improvisation or choreography. Please proceed carefully, as this workshop is filled with movements that take time to master.
This belly dance flow drills class will focus on layering muscular hip work with arm patterns and footwork. Zoe Jakes has created a format that teaches complex layering in a concise and clear way, and that is geared towards intermediate and advanced dancers of all styles. A yoga warm-up is strongly recommended before taking this class.
This three part workshop will focus on spins, flutters, and belly rolls that are used in Zoe's belly dance flow series and are applicable for Tribal Fusion belly dance technique. Each of these dance components will be broken down and explained clearly, allowing for dancers of all levels to gain a greater understanding of these elusive concepts.
Belly Dance Flow Drills have been created for the dedicated dancer as a means to drill almost all dance movements for a well-rounded daily practice. In this workshop Zoe will encourage a balance of strength, flexibility, and Tribal Fusion technique, utilizing sun salutations, Pilates, and good old fashioned belly dance. This practice will make you sweat, so drink lots of water, and you'll need a yoga mat and a towel.
This Intermediate level workshop starts with a warm up and conditioning focusing on arm strength and flexibility. We then cover a quick overview of Swords used in belly dance and specific concepts for group improvisation using swords. Starting with the dancers handling the sword, variations of slow and then fast ATS® and Scarlet Thistle moves are presented as well as dramatic poses and flourishes that showcase this “dangerous” prop. Sword balancing, both on the hand and on the head is discussed with Tribal Style movements utilized for hand balancing and the ATS® vocabulary is explored for balancing on the head. For the fast work, zils will also be used. Class finishes with an improvised drill that strings together multiple movements to create combinations appropriate for choreography or for improvisation.
After a quick belly dance warm up, the beautiful Sahra Turn is introduced and Reverse Taxim is layered with Arm Undulations in this ATS® basic class. We review fast foot positions then breakdown Arc-Arm Turn and Shoulder Shimmy. Ghawazee Shimmy and Arabic Hip-twist are introduced and put into combos to drill with zils. Transitions specifically suited for trios and quartets are broken down and drilled, then class finishes with a cool down.
This beginning level ATS® class starts with a warm up then reviews posture. Wrap-around Turn is introduced and slow movements are layered onto level changes. We review Turkish Shimmy then add a 1⁄2 Turn and introduce Reach & Sit. Class finishes with a call and response zil drill which rotates through the common zil pattern used in ATS® belly dance and a cool down.
This belly dance workshop is a study in combining basic movements together to create clear, distinct layers of simultaneous movement. We will address layering a variety of basic upper body movements with a variety of basic lower body movements. This class is targeted toward the dancer who is beyond beginner and is ready to move into more complex multi-tasking territory.
This is a fun, challenging, intermediate-level belly dance choreography to "Bounce" by Solace. In this fusion piece we'll play with some locking isolation combinations, layers, funky belly-dance based traveling steps and turns as well as a few Polynesian-inspired moves. This choreography is presented as a solo piece but with a few simple modifications, it can be done as a duet.
This workshop is a 3-part workout focusing on the torso. Class will begin with a Pilates and fitness routine designed to strengthen the major muscles of the trunk of the body: the upper and lower back, abdominals, and pectorals. Part two of this class is a 20-minute drill sequence focusing on belly dance movements of the torso. Part three focuses on spinal flexibility, side bends, and twists to increase flexibility and range of motion in the torso.
This workshop is from the "Built for Belly Dance Conditioning Series", which are fitness-based classes for belly dancers that build strength, flexibility, and technique. This workshop is a 3-part-power-packed belly dance, yoga, and fitness workout focusing on the lower body. Class will begin with a yoga and fitness routine for strengthening, then we will proceed to belly dance drills and a Tribal Fusion combo that focus on the legs and hips. The workshop will conclude with a yoga and stretching segment to increase flexibility and range of motion in the lower body. In this workshop we will focus on belly dance’s most classic prop, the veil. You will get clear and concise breakdowns of veil posture, technique, and 20 unique movements and variations. All of the movements can stand on their or own or seam together to create a lovely 20 part veil choreography. This American Cabaret Style workshop includes a warm-up specifically targeting arms, hands, wrists, upper back, shoulders and ribcage as well as commentary on using your veil as a theatrical prop and recovering from veil snafus.
In this Intermediate level class, a belly dance choreography featuring the Sword is presented to MWE's song, "Los Biblicos"*. Beginning with an entrance, the piece starts with the presentation of the Sword and dramatic Sword handling. The tension increases as the Sword is balanced and Tribal Style movements and variations are executed. This choreography is applicable to all styles of belly dance and may be utilized by ATS® or ITS groups. This belly dance workshop will introduce the intermediate student to two technique phrases called “scales.” These phrases can be used for improvisation or choreography, as well as being strong technique drills. They are introduced individually, then practiced together in a combination. You will drill undulations, rib cage circles, maya, side to side undulations, a simple lock pattern, and a more complex isolation pattern. This Tribal Fusion class begins and ends with a brief warm up and cool down.
This is a challenging beyond-beginner Pilates class designed just for belly dancers. In this workshop, we will practice exercises that target key muscle groups that are essential for belly dance technique as well as offer variations that help to balance the avid belly dancer’s body—addressing healthy spinal movement, range of motion, and offering pointers for injury prevention.

This beginning level ATS® class introduces basic slow belly dance moves including posture, taxim, hand floreo and reverse turn, and presents four fast moves: Arabic, Shimmy Step, Egyptian and Choo-choo. A zil pattern is paired with the fast moves and drilled. We start with a warm up and end with a cool down.

This belly dance workshop will teach you some of the gooeyest fundamental movements in Tribal Fusion vocabulary, and, when done regularly, will increase the strength and flexibility in the upper back and lateral muscles. It includes a warm up, three phrases: Bodywave, Side to Side Undulation, Sidewinder, an improvisation section including those phrases, and a cool down for flexibility. Enjoy!
This Tribal Fusion workshop offers some upper body layering over the 3/4 shimmy as well as three different 3/4 shimmy variations in the lower body. Upper body layers include chest circles, up to down body rolls, and down to up body rolls. Each belly dance movement will be broken down into isolations and then practiced on top of the 3/4 traveling shimmy. Each of the 3/4 shimmy variations combine an accent or shape in the hips: including hip locks up, hip locks down, twists, and slides. We’ll explore three specific variations that include these isolations. This workshop is designed for the experienced dancer who is already comfortable with the basic 3/4 shimmy and is ready to layer and travel!
This Tribal Fusion Belly Dance workshop is designed to give the beginning or intermediate belly dancer a foundation for traveling with 3/4 shimmies. In this workshop, we’ll break down the basic 3/4 shimmy, focusing on an even pacing and smooth execution. Pilates mat work, isolation drills, and balance exercise will help to prepare the dancer for the movement. This video includes a basic traveling combination to exercise traveling forward, back, and to the sides. Great for beginning to experienced dancers looking to drill the 3/4 shimmy.

In this workshop we will go through a clear and concise break down of the Egyptian style hip shimmy and shoulder shimmy. We will dance through an extended shimmy session to help increase the endurance and velocity of your shimmy. Finally, we will begin to add exciting and challenging shimmy layers and level changes.
